Answers about our program, admissions, cost, and what to expect
Palmetto Recovery of Charleston — The Palm — is a recovery residence in Charleston, South Carolina. We offer structured, live-in recovery programming that goes beyond sober living but does not provide clinical or medical services. Our program is built on a 12-step curriculum, peer mentorship from people in recovery, family connection, and real-world integration. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
A recovery residence sits between sober living and clinical rehab. Like sober living, residents live in a shared home environment. But unlike most sober living, a recovery residence provides structured daily programming — in our case, a full 12-step curriculum, assigned mentors, group sessions, family programming, and transition planning. Unlike clinical rehab, we do not provide medical or therapeutic services directly, though we help residents connect with outside clinicians.
The Palm serves adults in early recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. Most residents arrive after completing detox or a clinical program, though some come directly from active addiction (we require medical stability at intake). We work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Many of our residents have tried other programs before and are looking for something more structured and community-driven.
No. The Palm is not a clinical facility. We do not provide medical detox, therapy, psychiatry, or medication management. We refer residents to trusted local clinicians for those services and coordinate care alongside the recovery work they do with us. If you need medical detox, we will help you find the right facility before you come to The Palm.
Programs are 30, 60, or 90 days. We discuss the right length during admissions based on your situation. Many residents extend once they're here — recovery timelines don't always follow a calendar.
Mornings start with a recovery meeting or group session. Residents work through the 12-step curriculum with their assigned mentor throughout the week. Afternoons include employment, school, or community service. Evenings often include outside AA/NA meetings, recreation, or family connection time. The schedule is structured but leaves room for real life — residents hold jobs, go to the gym, and build routines they can sustain after they leave.
Yes. In fact, we encourage it. Real-world integration is central to our approach. We structure the program so residents can maintain employment or continue school while doing their recovery work.
Yes. We have resident dogs on the property. If you have a pet you'd like to bring, talk to us during admissions — we accommodate dogs on a case-by-case basis.
Transition planning starts on day one. Before you leave, you'll have ongoing meeting connections, a continuing mentorship relationship, relapse prevention strategies, and a plan for housing, work, and community. Many alumni stay connected to The Palm and to each other long after completing the program.
Programs range from $7,000 (30 days) to $12,000 (90 days). This covers housing, meals, all programming, mentorship, and transition planning. We are significantly more affordable than clinical rehab because we are a nonprofit and do not carry clinical overhead. Payment plans are available.
No. The Palm is private pay only. We do not accept insurance. We can discuss payment plans and options during your admissions call.
We require medical stability at intake. If you need detox, we will refer you to a trusted local detox facility. Once you're stabilized, we'll coordinate your admission to The Palm. This is not a barrier — it's a safety step.
Call us at 843-609-9354 or fill out the contact form on our website. The admissions conversation is confidential, no-pressure, and usually takes about 15 minutes. We'll talk through your situation, answer your questions, and figure out next steps together.
